I have been a ONE Campaign volunteer since about 2012, when I was living in San Antonio. When I moved to Austin in August 2013, I linked-up with our local organizer.

In October 2018, I joined Austin area volunteers to work the ONE Campaign display at ACL Fest. We explained key issues ONE Campaign is working to solve and encouraged visitors to sign postcard letters of support to be delivered to elected officials.

ONE is a campaigning and advocacy organization of more than nine million people around the world taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. We believe the fight against poverty isn’t about charity, but about justice and equality.

On a personal note, in December 2018, I learned via Ancestry.com that my DNA includes 1% from Cameroon/Congo/Western Bantu Peoples. I was so excited! Ancestry.com does continue analyzing DNA over time, and since 2018 my DNA updates have continued to include a tiny bit from Africa. My mother always thought she had African ancestry, and late in life we now learn this is true. But I have been interested in Africa for many years, particularly since my days at the University of Texas at Austin.

Join us in advocating for Africa. Our issues are wide ranging and include alleviating poverty, making zero hunger a reality, global health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, affordable clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, peace and justice, and partnerships.
