Before returning to Austin in summer, 2013, my sister flew me out to enjoy Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend at The Orleans in Las Vegas. That year, the wireless inside was “iffy,” but I managed to take a few great iPhone photos of the activities there, and outside during the greatly anticipated car show and music performances. The featured performer that year was the late Dick Dale. Having grown up in our early grade school years in San Bernardino, California and having loved surf music of that time (the 1960s), Dick’s performance was a great treat. Also, our father was a “car nut,” and we attended lots of car shows growing up. In fact, I credit going to those car shows and hearing the, “will you look at that!” and “wow! what style!” and more from my dad helped sharpen my visual skills. I eventually secured a Master’s Degree in American Art History at UT Austin.
