As a young family, we lived primarily in Southern California (several cities), and the Greater Houston, Texas regions of the United States. My grade school years were spent in Southern California. Soon thereafter, my father and his company were recruited to work on the first manned moon mission at NASA near Houston.
I graduated from high school in Texas, and chose to attend college at The University of Texas at Austin. Follow this link for a more detailed discussion. There, I secured two degrees and my first professional nonprofit fundraising experiences. My family eventually returned to Southern California, but I loved Texas and decided to stay. The snapshot above dates from the 1980s, and was taken at my parents’ former home in San Pedro, California.
I have always been a highly focused fundraiser, intent on reaching my goals and doing so in the most high minded way possible. It was when I departed Austin in late 1992, something that was very hard for me to do as I loved it so much, that my career really began. I worked relentlessly for some two decades on major gift efforts across Texas before stopping to write Carolyn’s Nonprofit Blog and to do more public speaking.
Although based in Central Texas, I work across Texas and beyond. My professional website provides greater detail about my experiences and skills. Follow the link to learn more about my professional work.
